Pres. Obama in Cuba

U.S. President Barack Obama is visiting Cuba with Cubans on the island cheering and some in the US ranting.  Obama and Raul Castro held a joint press conference, surprising many, with Obama putting the authoritarian government in Havana on the hot seat, taking questions from reporters and urging Castro to do the same.  There were several pointed queries on human rights, political prisoners and economic reforms, at times making Castro uneasy, and abruptly saying it was enough.
Both sides basically agreed that they disagree on many issues, however they both agree on one... both insist the embargo must end.  Obama even as so much saying, it will be lifted.
The people of Cuba are rejoicing at the idea of improved relations, for even Google plans to open a plant there.  However some Cubans in the US are angry at the prospect, while a vast majority of both Americans and Cubans feel it’s time. They feel that even though Obama’s deal is not the best, at least is a step in the right direction, and that it is way over due for changes in Cuba.
The one misstep for President Obama was maybe accidental, or maybe not.  As he was placing flowers honoring Cuban Patriot Jose Marti, he was also posed directly in front of a large mural depicting the infamous Che Guevara, considered by many a terrorist and murderer.
When it’s all said and done, the relationship with Cuba is changing rapidly and more significantly, it is a change no one can now put on hold, not even the leaders from the respective countries.  History will ultimately be the judge.

Fulop attacks Gov Chris Christie

In Hudson County where nothing is surprising in politics, and everything is fair game, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop this week has put up a new website urging NJ Governor Chris Christie to step down.  Fulop insists that Christie is more interested in campaigning with businessman and GOP front runner Donald Trump than attending to matters at home.
What seemed to have prompted Fulop, according to The Jersey Journal, is the decision by Christie not to show up at Monday’s funeral for a New Jersey state trooper killed in the line of duty so he could campaign with Trump.
The Governor has widely been criticized for his many trips out of state to campaign or raise funds.  However, the same criticism has been lobbied at Fulop who everyone believes has his eye on the governorship.
Fulop’s stepdownchris.com may be viewed by some of his own critics as “pot calling kettle…”  But, nevertheless, it is Hudson County, NJ.  It also appears that folks are fearing Christie less and less after his White House bid came crashing down.  Time will tell how all this plays out.

Super Duper Tuesday is Done

Super Tuesday came and went and left some debris in the way of badly battered, but still in it, and shredded and gone away candidates.  Here are the winners and losers from super duper Tuesday.
And the Winners are…

The Democratic front runner, Hillary Clinton walked away winning Florida by a huge margin, expanding her commanding delegate lead. Her decisive win in Ohio may well have put the nomination out of reach for Sen. Bernie Sanders. And even her speech last night was focused more on Donald Trump than on her rival.
Ohio Governor John Kasich needed to win his state in order to continue, and that he did. By doing so he denied Trump racking up another win and ever increasing number of  delegates.  After all hasn’t Kasich become the last bastion of hope for the GOP establishment.  Now Kasich will stay in the race, but for a candidate who didn’t win anything outside of his home state, it is difficult to see him being a factor for the nomination.  That is on less it becomes a contested or brokered nomination at the GOP convention in Cleveland.

Businessman and GOP front runner Donald Trump got big wins in Florida and Illinois, and North Carolina. He lost Ohio to Kasich, but so what, it was expected. The Republican race is now centered around the question of whether or not the party can deny Trump enough delegates to clinch the nomination outright.  But this train will be tough to derail.
The losers…
Sen. Bernie Sanders woke up today thinking super Tuesday may have been the night where his dream of becoming the Democratic nominee was put out of reach. He was stumped by Hillary Clinton in Ohio, a state he had hoped to win. The African American folks are just not with him, and that’s the bottom line.
Sen. Ted Cruz just keeps on shuging along. Trailing Trump in the delegate count, but staying put in the remote case of a hail Mary win at the convention. Cruz keeps positioning himself as the only candidate who can beat Trump, but there is a very good possibility that nobody believes him.
Another one bites the dust…
Sen. Marco Rubio is done.  He threw in the towel immediately after the double digit crushing defeat in his own state of Florida. The question remains wether this darling of the GOP establishment rides off into the Florida sunset? After all, he was the candidate that the establishment of the Republican Party picked to save them after Jeb Bush failed miserably. Ironically, Rubio may have given his best speech of his entire campaign as he was suspending his campaign. Rubio’s speech made it clear that he despises Donald Trump and the type of campaign that he is running. On the same day that it was reported that top conservatives were gathering to investigate the possibility of a third party conservative run if Trump is the Republican nominee, Rubio used his speech to define his meaning of conservatism.

Donald Trump vs. Protesters

A rally for the GOP’s presidential candidate front-runner turned violent today at a gathering in Dayton, Ohio, just a day after raucous protests in Chicago that led to the cancellation of a planned event yesterday. The disruption seemed like an organized protest by a small group of people intent in creating chaos, and not by Trump supporters.
Immediately after Trump told a protester to, "Go back home to mommy," screams erupted from behind Trump's podium, leading to four security members to jump onstage to protect the White House hopeful.
Today’s incident is the latest in an escalating number of protests and violent outbursts to take place at rallies for Donald Trump.  But it all seems like a concerted effort to disrupt his rallies and subsequently his lead.  The problem being that Trump’s supporters are passionate and could care less for political correctness.  They are angry, and when the protesters arrive screaming or chanting what would go untouched at a Clinton or Sanders event, here is met head on.
Trump continues to deny culpability for the reported volatile atmosphere at his gatherings, defending Friday night's canceled rally by Tweeting on Saturday that, "The organized group of people, many of them thugs, who shut down our First Amendment rights in Chicago, have totally energized America!" Which is completely true.  Many American’s feel that political correctness is killing this country, and that movements such as the racially divisive “black lives matter’ is a perfect example.  Because why shouldn’t “all” lives matter?
During last week's Republican CNN debate, debate moderator Jake Tapper confronted the GOP front-runner over recent controversial comments he has made during his massive gatherings.
Tapper noted that Trump has said, "I'd like to punch him in the face," referring to a protester. "February 27: 'In the good ol' days, they'd have ripped him out of that seat so fast.' February 1: 'Knock the crap out of him, would you? Seriously, OK just knock the hell — I promise you I will pay for the legal fees. I promise, I promise,'" Tapper said, quoting Trump's previous comments. The billionaire business man responded by calling the protesters, "Bad dudes." "They have done bad things. They are swinging, they are really dangerous, and they get in there, they start hitting people," Trump said.

It seems that Trump’s campaign is igniting many who feel they have been betrayed and who have stayed quiet for far too long.  The fact is people are sick and tired of politics as usual, and as they say, things will only get worse before getting better.

GOP debate before Florida

Last nights GOP presidential debate from the University of Miami was a welcomed turn of events, with the four remaining candidates maintaining relatively civil their political rhetoric.  After many months of ever intensifying personal attacks reaching dumfounding low levels, the candidates finally hit a conciliatory tone of sorts.
Outstanding was Senator Marco Rubio, who is fighting valiantly towards a Florida win.  Rubio is an accomplish orator, and demonstrated knowledge towards a vast array of issues, and delivered his proposals in a clear and cons iced manner. Las night we saw the old Marco Rubio. Recently he had dived off the cliff to disappointing numbers after his kamikaze attacks on Trump.  The badly lost contests put him once more on a more presidential track.  Now all he must do to survive, is to win his own state of Florida; a task of herculean proportions.  If not, he is pretty much out.
Ohio Governor John Kasich too did well.  Kasich tends to lean towards he center, and comes up with valid answers to the many issues facing the country.  Always affirming how he is the adult in the room.  The problem with Kasich is that his campaign has not taken off.  He is vying to win his state of Ohio, and if he doesn’t, it’s all over for him.  Quietly, he’s probably wishing the often mentioned “brokered convention”, becomes a reality.  A question he effectively dodged last night.
Senator Ted Cruz just doesn’t come across sincere.  He was the only candidate who maintained an constant attack on Trump, albeit not as aggressive.  Cruz begged the country to join his campaign, stating he’s the only candidate capable of beating Hillary Clinton on the Democratic side.  He sounds off his many policies, but they never resonate as honest.  Always coming across as memorized sound bites.
The leading GOP contender, business magnate Donald Trump, just doesn’t come across as knowing or having any grasp on the issues.  He toned down his rhetoric, but just has no policies to discuss.
By far, the most effective Republican presidential candidate on the University of Miami stage last night was Sen. Marco Rubio. He came across presidential, demonstrated excellent speaking ability, and came across well versed in issues and policy.  Now we all wait and see what happens next Tuesday in Florida.

Benghazi Mom calls Hillary "a proven liar"

At this week’s Democratic presidential debate from Miami Dade College in Florida held this Wednesday, March 9, 2016, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders clashed heavily over issues raging from immigration, health care reform, and Obama’s opening diplomatic relations with Cuba.  One thing that stood out from the debate was Clinton’s assertion about Benghazi, saying that the mother of a Benghazi victim is “absolutely wrong” to claim she lied after the 2012 terror attack.
Clinton was referring to Pat Smith, whose son Sean was among the four Americans killed.  Ms. Smith has repeatedly accused the former secretary of state of telling her that the attack stemmed from an anti-Islam video, something Clinton has denied.
Ms. Smith appeared on FOX on “The Intelligence Report” with Trish Regan where she reiterated that Clinton absolutely blamed the Benghazi attack on a video.  She continued to call Clinton “a proven liar”.  She also stated all she wants Clinto to do is tell the truth, and explain what really happened; “as a mother I deserve to know," Smith said. "All I want to know is why my son is dead."
